Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller vs. Trevor Bryan in the works for Jan.18

Image
By Dan Ambrose: Interim WBA heavyweight champion Trevor Bryan (20-0, 14 KOs) and unbeaten #2 WBA Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller (23-0-1, 20 KOs) are in negotiations for a fight on DAZN on January 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York, according to Dan Rafael. Miller’s co-promoter Greg Cohen, is working on the fight with Bryan’s promoter Don King. There’s no word about whether the vacant World Boxing Association ‘regular’ heavyweight title will be on the line or not for that fight. Miller’s co-promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom USA-DAZN is hoping that he can fight for that belt as soon as possible. In fact, Hearn had hoped that the WBA would allow Miller’s last fight against little known fringe contender Bogdan Dinu would have the vacant WBA secondary title on the line for their bout last month on November 17, but the sanctioning opted not to do that. Hearn said that Miller will soon be winning the WBA title regardless. “It’s the interim champion against the highest-rated contender...

Hughie Fury injured, fight with Joe Joyce on hold

Image
By Scott Gilfoid: British heavyweight champion Hughie Fury (21-2, 11 KOs) and unbeaten world level contender Joe Joyce (7-0, 7 KOs) have reportedly agreed to put off their fight due to Hughie suffering an injury. The British Boxing Board of Control [BBofC] ordered Hughie to defend his domestic level heavyweight title against Joyce in his next fight, but his injury will delay that from happening. There’s also some doubts among boxing fans whether Hughie will ever face a talent like Joyce. With Hughie having lost 2 out of his last 3 fights, the last thing he needs right now is another defeat. It’ll be interesting to see just when Hughie is ready to defend his British title against the 6’6? Joyce. Will Hughie and his team wait until Joyce is scheduled to to fight someone else before he finally is well enough to defend his British title. If Hughie’s injury is extended, Joyce may go away, and do other things with his career. Fighting for domestic level title is a dead end for fighter...

Hopkins says Lemieux & Jacobs are options for Canelo after Fielding

Image
By Jim Dower: Bernard Hopkins of Golden Boy Promotions says David Lemieux and Danny Jacobs will be ready for Saul Canelo Alvarez for his next fight after his title challenge this Saturday night against WBA ‘regular’ super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding. Beyond this Saturday’s Canelo-Rocky fight at Madison Square Garden in New York, there’s a great deal of speculation from the boxing world about who Canelo (50-1-2, 34 KOs) will be facing for his May 4 fight next year in Cinco de Mayo. Golden Boy Promotions has already booked the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada for the May 4 date. “Danny Jacobs is ready, David Lemieux is ready,” Hopkins said to skysports.com about Canelo’s next fight after Fielding. Lemieux (40-4, 34 KOs) is fighting on Canelo’s undercard this Saturday night against Tureano Johnson (20-2, 14 KOs) in the co-feature bout. As much as Golden Boy Promotions would like to potentially plug Lemieux in as Canelo’s opponent for May 4 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las...

Guillermo Rigondeaux to fight in January

Image
By Jim Dower: Former WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux will be emerging from a one-year layoff to fight against an opponent still to be determined next month in January. The two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist Rigondeaux (17-1, 11 KOs) hasn’t fought since his 6th round injury stoppage loss to former World Boxing Organization super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko on December 9, 2017. Rigondeaux’s fight in January will be back at super bantamweight. He was too small to be fighting at super featherweight in his last fight against Lomachenko. The possible dates for Rigondeaux’s next fight are as follows: – January 13 – on Jose Uzcategui vs. Caleb Plant card on FOX Sports 1 – January 19 – on Manny Pacquiao vs. Adrien Broner card on Showtime PPV – January 26 – on Keith Thurman vs. Josesito Lopez on FOX It was a bad idea from the moment the fight was put together for Rigondeaux to move up two weight divisions to fight the much larger, and h...

Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury generates 325,000 buys

Image
By Scott Gilfoid: The pay-per-view numbers are out for the WBC heavyweight champion Deontay vs. Tyson Fury for their December 1 fight on Showtime PPV, and the fight reportedly generated 325,000 buys, according to ESPN. While those numbers might not compare to the amount of PPV buys of superstars like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul Canelo Alvarez, they’re still quite impressive, given that this was the 6’7? Wilder’s first venture into PPV against a foreign fighter that had been out of boxing for close to three years. Wilder (40-0-1, 39 KOs) was held to a controversial 12 round split draw by the unbeaten Fury (27-0-1, 19 KOs) on December 1 on Showtime PPV at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. After eight rounds, it appeared that Fury, 30, was cruising to an easy upset victory over the 32-year-old Wilder. However, Wilder’s trainers helped motivate him in his corner to go after the 6’9? Fury in the last four rounds of the bout. Wilder came roaring back to drop Fury twice ...

De La Hoya says Canelo will KO GGG if they fight again

Image
By Sean Jones: Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions says there are no fights scheduled between Saul Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin in 2019, but when they do face each other again, GGG is getting knocked out. De La Hoya says that there’s a chance that Canelo and Golovkin could face each other as many as five times, but it’s going to require that GGG sign with DAZN for any chance of those fights taking place. Golovkin still is unsigned with his contract with HBO expired recently, and he’s being courted by ESPN/Top Rank, DAZN and Premier Boxing Champions/FOX/SHOWTIME. Canelo, 28, will be fighting other people next year. The rumors that Canelo (50-1-2, 34 KOs) will be battling GGG in a trilogy fight on Cinco de Mayo on May 4, 2019 are false. The information was mistakenly showed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s website this week that had Golden Boy Promotions and GGG Promotions booking the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada for May 4 next year. Canelo will be f...

De La Hoya Canelo will KO Fielding in 9th or 10th round

Image
By Sean Jones: Golden Boy Promotions head boss Oscar De La Hoya is predicting a knockout for his flagship fighter Saul Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) over WBA World super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) this Saturday night on DAZN at Madison Square Garden in New York. While De La Hoya maintains that it’s not going to be an easy match for the 28-year-old Canelo, who is coming off of easily the toughest fight of his career in his rematch with Gennady Golovkin last September, he still sees his Mexican start stopping the British fighter Fielding in the 9th or 10th round on Saturday night. It’s important to De La Hoya that Canelo not slip on a banana skin and lose this fight, as there are a lot of big fights out there for him in 2019. De La Hoya doesn’t want Canelo to have invest time fighting Fielding in a rematch to avenge a loss. “I’m not promoting this fight [Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Rocky Fielding] as the most difficult, but it’s not going to be the easiest...

David Lemieux vs. Tureano Johnson – preview & prediction

Image
By Jeff Aranow: David Lemieux (40-4, 34 KOs) is totally unconcerned about the threat posed to him by his opponent Tureano Johnson (20-2, 14 KOs) this Saturday on DAZN. Lemieux will be fighting Johnson in a 12 round bout on the undercard of Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Rocky Fielding at Madison Square Garden in New York. There are reportedly still tickets on sale for the fight card. ** Subscribe here to DAZN & Watch Canelo Alvarez fight Rocky Fielding Sat Night FREE with a 30 day trial! ** Former IBF middleweight champion Lemieux has turned his career around recently with two victories over Karim Achour and Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan. More than anything, Lemieux’s conditioning looked better in those fights than they had in his loss last year to former World Boxing Organization champion Billy Joe Saunders. Lemieux looked like he had been battling the weight to get down to the 160 pound limit for the fight. That reflected on his performance during the fight. Lemieux looked huge a...

Canelo vs Rocky – DAZN Live Stream – Final Presser

Image
Canelo vs Fielding will take place Saturday, December 15 and will be streamed live on DAZN – which, at just $9.99 per month after a one-month free trial, means new subscribers to DAZN will enjoy the entire Canelo vs Rocky fight night for free. In a recent visit to his training camp, WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) discussed his desire to join a select list of Mexican boxers to become a three-division world champion as he prepares for his 12-round fight against Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) for the WBA Super Middleweight World Title. Canelo also shared his excitement at fighting at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the first time. There have only been a few Mexican fighters to become three-division world champions, and this illustrious list includes pugilists such as Julio Cesar Chavez, Erik “El Terrible” Morales, Marco Antonio “The Baby-Faced Assassin” Barrera and Jorge “El Travieso” Arce. If Canelo defeat...

Billy Joe Saunders battles Zoltan Sera on December 22

Image
By Tim Royner: Former WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders will be back in action on the undercard of Josh Warrington vs. Carl Frampton on December 22 to face 33-year-old Hungarian journeyman Zoltan Sera at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. Warrington-Frampton will be streamed on ESPN+. This is a stay busy fight for the 29-year-old Saunders (26-0, 12 KOs), who hasn’t fought in a year since his 12 round unanimous decision win over former IBF 160 lb champion David Lemieux last year on December 16 in Canada. Adding Saunders to the Warrington-Frampton card against a journeyman level fighter in Sera won’t bring much value to the card. Some boxing fans will obviously be delighted at hearing the news of Saunders fighting on the Warrington vs. Frampton card, but they won’t be thrilled to hear that he’s facing a no name fighter. Saunders is 29-years-old. He should be fighting better opposition each time out. Saunders recently tested positive for a banned substance, a...
